Steps To Six Pack Abs

Bringing your body-fat level down by:

1.) Following a precise nutrition plan that has the right amount of protein combined together with the right amount and the right type of carbohydrates spaced strategically through-out the day, and around weight training and cardio sessions.

2.) An intelligent cardiovascular program

3.) An optimistic athletic mid-set

4.) Building up the muscles of the mid-section, and building up all other muscle groups In this article let’s focus on #4.

The secret weapon for developing the musculature of the abdominal wall is a little known exercise called the ab vacuum. It targets you inner most abdominal muscle, the transverse abdominis (TVA for short). Most people don’t even know they have one let alone how to activate it. The TVA is like a corset, it is your own internal weight belt, holding your internal organs in place. It is the foundation for the rest of the abdominal muscles, the internal and external obliques, and the rectus abdominis. If you have done crunches and leg-lifts until you are blue in the face and are still unhappy with your mid-section, this information could take your quest for that fit chiseled mid-section to the next level.

There are other benefits to strengthening your TVA.

* It is the only exercise that has the ability to actually make your waist-line smaller.

* By working and strengthening the TVA you are actually giving your spine more support, so the risk of a vertebrae or a disc slipping out of place is less. Did you notice that the old leather weight belts are not used anymore? That’s because we learned to tighten up our own internal weight belt on exercises verses using an external weight belt that shut off the need to activate the TVA which lead to injuries.

* Better sex. When you strengthen your TVA with the ab vacuum exercise you will be using your diaphragm and you will also strengthen your lower pelvic floor muscles (ala a kegel squeeze). To perform a kegel exercise, squeeze your pelvic floor muscles, as if you’re trying to stop the flow of urine mid-stream. Stronger pelvic floor muscles help women achieve orgasms and help men achieve and maintain erections. It also makes the orgasms more pleasurable. As soon as I tell my clients this, you can always be assured of overtraining of the TVA.

* You can work the other abdominal muscles more effectively. You can’t shoot a cannon out of a canoe. You can’t have strong walls on your building if your foundation is weak. When you strengthen up the foundation of your mid-section you will be able to perform your other abdominal exercises with more focused intensity. You will be able to feel the difference in weeks.

* Athleticism- The TVA is the deepest abdominal muscle group there is. It is truly the core the core. An athlete can have excellent cardiovascular condition and have strong leg and back muscles, but if his core muscles aren’t in optimal condition, this creates a weak link in the bodies muscle chain that affects all his movements. All movements and reactions start at the core. If core muscles don’t do their job to stabilize and move the torso, then arm and leg muscles will overcompensate, trying to do a job for which they are ill-equipped.

To get in tune with and activate your TVA simply place your hands around the sides of your body at your pelvis. Flatten your stomach by gently pulling in your gut, or pulling your belly away from your waist band. You can feel the TVA at work as it reduces the diameter of your torso in that area. This simple exercise also demonstrates the involvement of the abs in respiration, particularly exhalation.

I have put on an incredibly unique twist to this exercise. The combination of two little known exercises takes the effectiveness of this core exercise to the next level. Basically, I have combined an ab vacuum with a kegele squeeze. Most women know what a kegel squeeze is. In child birth it gets the lower pelvic floor muscles stronger which aid in the pushing for child birth. For men, when trying to perform a kegel squeeze, think about stopping the flow of urine mid-stream while pulling your belly-button back toward your spine (as you exhale about 1/2 of your lung capacity). Also try to think about squeezing your sphincter muscles or like you have a quarter between your butt cheeks and you don’t want it too fall out.

Now lets perform the exercise

To begin, lie on your back with your knees bent at a 90, feet flat on the floor and the small of your back pushed flat into the floor. Take in a very slow long breathe and start to slowly exhale 3/4 of your air while you are pulling your belly button down toward your spine (I like to put my index finger on my belly-button and feel it raise as I take the long breathe in and then feel it start downward as I exhale 3/4 of my lung capacity). While at the same time pushing your lower back into the floor and drive you chin down toward your chest slightly. Once you have 3/4 of your air out hold your breathe and suck in through your throat with your breathe being held for 5-10 seconds. As you are holding your breath and sucking in, think about pulling your innards up and under your rib-cage. It is called the ab vacuum for a reason, it is a little hard to come out of it and resume your normal breathing. But you will, and once you do relax and take a couple breathes and repeat. Starting out do 1 set of 6-9 repetitions, 2-3 times per week.

You can do the ab vacuum anywhere, and need no equipment. It’s a great way to wake up, or to end your day. It will take lots of practice and each week you will be able to feel the muscles working more and more. Once you get good at the technique you will be able to feel a 1/2 circle burning sensation in the pubic area. Don’t be alarmed, just feel good about mastering one of the most unique and effective abdominal exercises out there. Please don’t give up on this exercise, once you master it you will be able to reverse gravity, and start to put back in place what years of inactivity and bad posture has started to let hang over your belt line.

The Ranch Treatment Center Introduces Equine-Enriched Programming for Men with Co-Occurring Disorders

Nunnelly, TN (PRWEB) March 03, 2015

In January, The Ranch treatment center in Tennessee launched equine-enriched therapy as part of its comprehensive treatment program for men struggling with addiction and co-occurring mental and emotional disorders. The program is housed in a newly renovated eight-bed residence on the beautiful Piney River, called River House.

The program features two equine-assisted therapy groups each week co-facilitated by a primary therapist and equine therapist, an additional equine group every other weekend, as well as opportunities for therapeutic and recreational riding. Therapists who work in the fascinating world of equine-assisted therapy have found that interacting with and caring for horses can provide valuable lessons in accountability, responsibility, communication and relationship-building — things that are often missing in the lives of people who have been derailed by drugs, alcohol, depression, loss and trauma.

“Every day I see clients who have a hard time relating to other people, but who are able connect with a horse and learn new ways of communicating and opening up,” reports Ben Cook, MA, a primary therapist at The Ranch. When clients arrive at The Ranch, they are assigned a horse to care for and to feed twice a day. Caring for and interacting with horses, Cook says, can offer unique lessons and insights about recovery.

The program was developed collaboratively with the clinical team, which includes the program’s equine therapist, Dede Beasley. Beasley is a master’s level clinician with more than three decades of experience in the field of equine-assisted therapy.

“Working with the horses helps our clients learn what it feels like to engage in selfless acts of service without an expectation of anything in return,” says Beasley. The process of working with horses can stir deeply buried emotions and reveal patterns in relationships and in communication.

“The horses can provide lessons in being direct and assertive and asking for what we want or need,” Beasley says.

In addition to equine-assisted therapy, the men’s program offers:

Two-hour group therapy sessions, four times a week
Weekly one-hour sessions with a primary therapy
Weekly one-hour sessions with a trauma therapist
Daily educational groups focused on trauma recovery, addiction recovery and spiritual development
Mindfulness/meditation groups several times each week
Multiple offsite meetings

Additional programming includes information and skills-building in nutrition, body image, fitness, wellness and 12-step principles, depending on the client’s needs.

River House is located on the site of the former Pinewood Plantation Mansion, and is adjacent to the barn that houses the horses used in therapy. The home features a new kitchen, new bathrooms and upgrades throughout. The treatment team at River House offers primary and extended care services for men suffering from emotional and mental health problems, including addiction, mood disorders and anxiety disorders.

Leading Sleep Expert Offers Five Modern Day Tips for a Better Nights Sleep

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) March 02, 2015

While many people find it easy to be mindful of and work toward being healthier by changing their nutrition, exercise and other lifestyle habits, perhaps the most crucial element to a healthy body is often overlooked: Sleep. We spend up to a third of our lives doing it and we will literally die without it. Yet, the sleep aid sections of local pharmacies continue to expand, as an estimated 60 million Americans suffer from chronic sleep disorders and over $ 56 billion and 25,000 lives are lost each year in the US because of sleep-related accidents.

In conjunction with national Sleep Awareness Week, March 2-8, 2015 (http://sleepfoundation.org/events-activities/sleep-awareness-week), sleep expert Karen Schwarzbach has compiled a list of five lesser-known facts and tips for a healthier sleep that everyone can consider and integrate into their lifestyles. Schwarzbach, a respected sleep consultant for more than twelve years who has helped literally thousands of sleep-deprived individuals finally achieve healthy and peaceful sleep patterns, outlines what she considers some of the more unknown sleep problems – and their solutions – that she encounters in our increasingly technology-dependent and high-pressure performance culture. With the recent nationwide integration the Affordable Health Care Act, Schwarzbach’s work has been increasingly in demand as focus on corporate wellness programs now being required by the act (for corporations of a certain size) continue to proliferate.

Schwarzbach, who routinely advocates sleep as one of the “Three Pillars of Health” (along with exercise and nutrition), has outlined the following top five oft-times surprising factors that contribute to modern Western cultural sleep maladies and her corresponding secrets for a better night’s sleep:

Avoid Wine Before Bedtime. It’s a nightly ritual for many Americans – drinking a couple of glasses of alcohol directly before falling asleep. In fact, many people consider alcohol a sleep aid due to its relaxing qualities. But, what many don’t realize is it is also common for pre-bedtime drinks to contribute to one being wide awake several hours after conking out. Schwarzbach explains that while drinking before bed can induce sleep, it actually disrupts sleep and diminishes the quality and depth of sleep, leading to restlessness and frequent wakings leaving one feeling fatigued the next morning. Also, alcohol is a diuretic, which can be dehydrating as well as increase one’s need to go the bathroom, causing one to awaken from slumber. She recommends that if wine or alcohol are a part of your evening routine, try to stop drinking at least one hour prior to sleep to preserve the most deep and crucial stages of sleep.

Avoid Electronics Before Bedtime. Many people routinely attempt to fall asleep immediately after watching television, using their laptops or checking e-mail or using apps on their smart phones. Many people are unaware that these devices all emit low blue light, which is absorbed and processed by the brain and can disrupt or slow down the body’s melatonin production, which influences natural nighttime sleep algorithms. Schwarzbach recommends ceasing the use of all devices at least 1 hour prior to going to bed and not keeping phones and laptops on at the bedside.

Sleep Tracking Devices Aren’t a Cure-All. As increasing use of technology can impair sleep, the recent onslaught of new technology devices and apps that help track and monitor sleeping habits can help improve overall sleep. However, Schwarzbach warns that while these technologies can provide important data, they are often unaccompanied by meaningful and effective behavioral modification programs. Schwarzbach promotes a “High Tech with High Touch” approach, working with her clients to map out routines for remedying problem-causing factors to maximize the useful info that has been gathered.

Daylight Savings Time Can Debilitate. While it may seem like only an hour and of little change to one’s daily schedule, biannual time shifts can dramatically and adversely affect sleeping patterns for weeks – even months – following the clock changes. Even a slight change in the body’s regular circadian rhythm can throw sleep patterns into disarray, an issue Schwarzbach says is often incredibly evident in children. In order to better adapt to these changes, Schwarzbach recommends starting to adjust the time you go to bed and the time you wake up by 15 minutes every couple of days preceding the time change. This way you have helped your body land back where it began when the clock moves forward by an hour in the Spring.

Never Underestimate Sleep Environment. Factors including noise, light, temperature, pillows and mattress and decor might seem like obvious considerations for an optimal sleeping environment, but Schwarzbach emphasizes the importance of considering all five of these factors for improving unhealthy sleep. It could be as easy as taking down a loudly colored painting on the wall, reducing the room lighting to a lower bulb wattage (low blue light), turning the clock away from your bed so you’re not tempted to start doing math in the middle of the night figuring out how many more hours of sleep you can get, using a white noise maker, choosing the most appropriate bedding or decreasing the room temperature to between 65 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit (“Cool is the Rule!”) degrees prior to sleep.

“Insomnia is perhaps the most underrated health ailment in the US and Sleep Awareness Week is a time for self-reflection and education for improving these ailments,” said Schwarzbach. “Our sleep patterns dramatically affect our health, performance and overall sense of well-being. Once people have the tools and information to modify their sleeping habits, they can experience life-changing results within days and weeks.”

Aurora Fit Body Boot Camp Celebrates Grand Opening with Charity Fundraiser

Aurora, Ont. (PRWEB) March 03, 2015

Aurora Fit Body Boot Camp will be holding a Grand Opening celebration and charity drive to observe the opening of the indoor fitness boot camp and raise funds for the local charity organization Ashleigh’s Hope. The event will be held on March 21 from 8am to 1pm at 255 Industrial Pkwy S #7, Aurora, ON. The opening will feature free boot camp demonstrations, local small business vendors, and a DJ.

Fit Body Boot Camp is the world’s most popular and fastest growing indoor fitness boot camp brand with hundreds of locations around the world and new locations opening each week.

Aaron Burchart, owner of the new Aurora Fit Body Boot Camp, is hosting the Grand Opening celebration. Burcahrt has been working as a fitness professional in the Aurora area since 2011 and opened Aurora’s BootCamp in 2014. In January of 2015 he decided to transition into a Fit Body Boot Camp franchise and hopes to see even more success for his business as a result.

“When I decided to make the switch,” said Burchart, “I told my current clientele that moving to the Fit Body Boot Camp model was the right decision for them as well as I. With all of the franchise’s done-for-you and turnkey systems, I can stay focused on my clients’ results instead of worrying about marketing and business development.”

Any money raised at the Grand Opening will be donated to Ashleigh’s Hope, a charity organization that funds the treatment of a young women’s rare and debilitating disease. The mother of Ashleigh is a client at Aurora Fit Body Boot Camp and Burchart’s connection with the family encouraged him to support the fundraising for Ashleigh’s treatment.

“Ashleigh’s mother is one of the original Aurora Boot Camp members,” said Burcahrt. “She’s a great part of the community we have built here. It would mean a lot to me if, in some way, I could help take the stress of her daughter’s disease off her shoulders.” A raffle, with prizes such as iPad Minis and other electronics, will raise money to support Ashleigh’s Hope.

The Grand Opening will also include an awards ceremony with Burchart distributing accolades for clients who have achieved the best results during his most recent Transformation Challenge. He regularly hosts challenges such as these, where clients work in cohorts to achieve transformative results. Event attendees will have an opportunity to meet the most successful Transformation Challenge participants, including individuals who have lost over 100 pounds with Burchart’s training programs.

With local vendors selling discounted wares and services, a DJ playing music throughout the event, and giveaways including six months of free boot camp, Aurora Fit Body Boot Camp plans to treat its community to a fun and exciting celebration.

Lynn Vanderburg Opens Local Caring Transitions Business

Fort Worth, TX (PRWEB) March 02, 2015

Moving can be one of the most stressful events in a person’s life, especially when it involves seniors transitioning to a smaller home or residential facility. Regardless of if it is planned, or unexpected due to the loss of a loved one or because of illness, relocating or downsizing can be challenging.

In an effort to ease the burden placed on seniors and their families in making tough decisions concerning relocation choices, de-cluttering a residence, downsizing a home, preserving family heirlooms and organizing estate sales or online auctions, Granbury entrepreneur Lynn Vanderburg has launched Caring Transitions of Granbury, a business designed to help Tarrant, Hood, Parker, Johnson and Somervell counties as well as surrounding area families through the senior relocation process.

The Canadian Native is one of the newest of 150 Caring Transitions franchise owners located around the United States. After dealing with the transition of her own mother last year, Vanderburg saw the need for a business focused on respect and sensitivity of the psychological impact downsizing and relocation can have on you or your loved one.

“What do you do when you have Mom or Dad that live in a different city, state or country from you and they have reached that time in their life where they need some help? They know it’s time to move but they don’t know where they can move to, what to take, who can move them, who can pack them, what do they do with all the ‘stuff’ that isn’t coming with them, the house is in need of repairs before they can get it on the market, what realtor do they use, how much paperwork will they need to look at and how do they know all the different companies they are using are reputable? It just goes on and on,” Vanderburg said.

“It can be so overwhelming and frustrating both for the person moving and for the loved one who doesn’t know where to start and can’t afford the extensive time required to accomplish the endless tasks. Caring Transitions of Granbury will exercise full transparency to the involved parties so they can feel safe in knowing that they or their loved one is getting the best care,” she added.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and an Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy, it is obvious that Lynn enjoys working with people.

“I have worked in the Hospitals for years, both at the bedside and as an educator. My last eight years have been spent as a Clinical Educator, which meant constant travel around the Nation providing educational lectures for Healthcare clinicians. I wanted to come home and focus more on the community around me,” Vanderburg said.

Vanderburg was a weekender in Granbury for many years before becoming a permanent resident in 2012. She said she wanted to take in that small town feel.

“Sunday would come and I wouldn’t want to leave. Now I don’t have to,” said Vanderburg.

As a certified relocation transition specialist (CRTS), Vanderburg’s job is to help reduce the stress and anxiety among families by providing expert guidance on all phases of transitioning. Caring Transitions of Granbury is a fully insured, bonded company.

“Our employees are held to the highest standards and maintain ongoing security and educational requirements. All of our employees are bonded, insured and thoroughly screened. There is a training program that each and every employee goes through to ensure they are performing in a professional and highly ethical manor,” Vanderburg said.

“The first step for a client who is interested in Caring Transitions of Granbury’s services is to set up a free, no pressure, in-home consultation where we sit down and determine what you need. We can discuss where you will be moving and how much help you expect to receive from family and friends. After a plan is set in motion, then we go through and take some measurements to determine, what you want to take with you, and if it will fit in your new home,” she said.

Vanderburg offers a space planning option that would place furniture onto the exact floor plan of your new home to scale so you know before you move what fits and what doesn’t fit. Caring Transitions also helps with de-cluttering, organizing, overseeing having items shipped to friends and family, and working with families to conduct estate sales and auctions of the remaining items.

“We are a one-stop shop – we pack, unpack and oversee the move. We even help the client make the transition into your new home easier by taking special care to set things up as to closely resemble your prior residence, for example making sure to put the cutlery in a drawer to the left of the dishwasher because that is where it was before. When you or your loved one moves into your new home it will look like you lived there for years, the bed will be made, the pictures hung on the walls and even the remote will be on the armrest of your favorite chair. There is a need for the service and I am excited to be the one that can offer it,” Vanderburg said.
